JOB SUMMARY

Provides support to the clinic's medical faculty and acts as an advocate for patients by facilitating their access to the services provided at HAS. Responsible for coordinating and participating in the planning and execution of direct care from the nursing area to patients who visit the clinic facilities. Ensures the health, well-being, comfort and safety of the patients of the hospital institution.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Guides and prepares patients for procedures and/or various medical activities.
  • Conducts rounds in evaluation areas and medical cubicles.
  • Performs the triage process according to established protocols.
  • Takes vital signs and assesses the patient's visual and auditory performance.
  • Administers medications and related products to clinic patients, such as vaccines, IM, IV, and SC medications, allergy treatments, among others.
  • Performs EKGs. Perform visual screening. Perform the Dextrostix test. Apply Holter monitors. Prepare patients for stress tests.
  • Administers oxygen.
  • Responsible for organizing and supplying materials to the different medical areas.
  • Provides assistance and support to the physician in clinical emergencies, patient physical examinations, and other procedures.
  • Assist physicians and patients in the gynecology area before, during, and after procedures, including screening tests such as fractional urinalysis.
  • Conduct evaluation protocols for Salus's special programs, including the Wellness program and preventive screenings.
  • Monitor patients after procedures.
  • Check the crash cart, the nursing first aid kit, and verify medication expiration dates.
    Generate vaccination certificates and health certificates.
  • Verify biohazard containers.
  • Take inventory of vaccines, medications, supplies, and other medical equipment.
  • Report procedures performed on the patient in the medical record.
  • Collect, wash, prepare, and dispose of sharps containers and instruments. Sterilize assigned areas.
  • Ensure patient documents are properly completed and signed by physicians.
  • Manage biopsies: deliver them to pathology lab messengers, record results in the biopsy logbook, and
  • request medical records to document biopsy results.
    Provide support to graduate staff in all nursing functions.

EDUCATION

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing

EXPERIENCE

  • Associate of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution with 1 to 3 years of clinical experience, preferably. Or, alternatively, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with 3 to 5 years of clinical experience.
  • Registered Nurse with a current/valid license in Puerto Rico in good standing or without restrictions. Member of the Puerto Rico College of Nursing Professionals. Member of the Examining Board of Respiratory Care Technicians of Puerto Rico.
