JOB SUMMARY
Health professional responsible for primary, comprehensive, personalized, and continuous care of patients. Provides diagnosis, treatment, care coordination, preventive services, and health maintenance for patients and all family members, encompassing biological, behavioral, and clinical care. Expert in medical philosophy, with extensive knowledge in all fields of medicine. Provides healthcare to patients following best practices of evidence-based medicine.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates patient services considering the diagnosis and their needs.
- Conducts medical evaluations, physical exams, and treatments for patients based on an hourly schedule.
- Determines the diagnosis of conditions based on the best clinical judgment, considering essential factors such as subjective and, more importantly, objective results from studies and labs, and a thorough physical exam.
- Issues orders and referrals for the maintenance and continuity of the patient's health.
- Refers patients to other external specialists if necessary for services not offered at the clinic. Refers patients to the laboratory for clinical analyses.
- Reviews medical results and advises patients about their medical conditions. Based on diagnosis, findings, labs, physical studies, medical history, and other results, recommends the most appropriate treatment for the patient, using the most updated care guidelines.
- Follows up on patients referred to higher complexity levels.
- Performs procedures according to their specialty and as approved by the organization. Prescribes medications according to the patient's conditions, following clinical guidelines.
- Documents medical evaluations, medical orders, and patient referrals in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Evaluates requests from patients, the pharmacy, and laboratories regarding the services offered to authorize, modify, collect, order, and channel referrals.
- Integrates the interdisciplinary team to provide patients with healthcare according to their particular needs.
- Attends and participates in periodic team meetings to share relevant information about patient care and health needs and other information that promotes efficient patient care.
- Collaborates in developing team priorities, goals, and patient care plans.
- Provides guidance and supervision of procedures performed by the Nursing area.
- Trains student interns as assigned by the Medical Faculty direction.
- Assists in designing protocols, policies, and medical principles to be implemented in the institution.
- Coordinates and receives representatives from other medical institutions, insurers, medical propagandists, and other visitors.
EDUCATION
- Doctorate Degree in Medicine
EXPERIENCE
Doctorate in Medicine from a recognized and accredited university institution with at least one year of experience in the clinical area.
Valid and current Medical License from the Puerto Rico Medical Licensing Board.
Valid State (AMSCA) and Federal (DEA) Narcotics License. Approved courses in CPR, ACLS, ITLS, PALS (as applicable). Unrestricted certificate from the Medical Examiners Board. Preferably credentialed with major health insurance plans.
