JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for performing the necessary radiological studies in the modalities of X-rays, Sonography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), and, or Bone Densitometry (DXA), as applicable and according to the patient's medical order. Performs the imaging process and ensures that the quality requirements of the different phases are met. Prepares the patient for the exams. Produces images to identify the diagnosis of medical problems. Ensures safety standards and the proper maintenance and use of radiological equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Receives and directs patients to different medical areas.
- Conducts patient interviews and orientations prior to the study, ensuring that the patient understands the nature and possible complications of the procedure.
- Operates the radiological machine or device used to take images.
- Ensures compliance with safety measures for each machine.
- Verifies that the medical order matches pre-authorization and billing documents.
- Responsible for maintaining records of adverse reaction reports.
- Ensures that all study images are registered in the system (PACS).
- Escorts patients from entry to exit, ensuring that the patient is in optimal condition upon departure from the department. If an adverse reaction is detected, immediately notifies the Radiology Services Supervisor and assists in patient care.
- Performs radiological studies in the modalities of X-rays, Sonography, MRI, CT, and, or DXA, as required.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's Degree
- Associate's Degree
EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Medical Sonography and/or Radiologic Technology from an accredited institution with 1-3 years of experience in radiology centers, preferred. Or, in lieu of, an Associate's degree in Medical Sonography and/or Radiologic Technology (60-64 college credits) with 3-5 years of experience in radiology centers.
Current license as a Radiologic Technologist in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Imaging; Certifications in radiology modalities such as:
- Computed Tomography (CT)
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Mammography
- Bone Densitometry
- Peripheral-Cardiovascular Radiology
- License in Radiation Therapy
