JOB SUMMARY
Provides support to the medical faculty of the clinic and direct care in preparing patients to be evaluated by the doctor or specialist. Provides and coordinates health care for patients, instructs patients and the public on various health conditions, and offers advice and emotional support to patients and their families. Responsible for the administration of medications and vaccines. Ensures the health, well-being, comfort, and safety of patients in the hospital institution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides assistance and support to the doctor in patient care; preventive, acute, and, or clinical emergencies.
- Performs nursing procedures according to the organization's standards and policies and practice standards, such as: taking vital signs, administering medications and oxygen, visual and auditory screening, creating and distributing vaccination and health certificates, among others.
- Attends and participates in periodic team meetings to share relevant information about patient care and health needs and any other information that promotes efficient patient care.
- Educates the patient about health care, the goals set for their care plan and provides support to help the patient become self-sufficient.
- Performs medication reconciliation and educates the patient on their administration.
- Organizes and reviews patients' clinical documentation.
- Scans the patient's clinical documentation, test results, and studies, and any other relevant information into the patient's electronic record.
- Documents all patient information and clinical data, such as history, medications, diagnosis, laboratory and study results, etc., to meet quality metrics.
- Responsible for performing clinical studies as recommended and ordered by the doctor.
- Notifies the supervisor and follows the established protocol for patients with altered vital signs.
- Responsible for maintaining the nursing area and its equipment in order.
- Responsible for supplying materials to different medical areas.
- Checks the first aid kit and emergency bag at least monthly to ensure they are up-to-date and contain all necessary materials and medications.
- Conducts inventory of vaccines, medications, materials, and other medical equipment.
- Ensures the collection of "biohazard" boxes once they are full to proceed with closing them.
- Collects, washes, prepares, and sterilizes reusable instruments, as well as disinfects assigned areas.
- Manages biopsies: delivers them to pathology lab couriers, records results in the biopsy book, and requests medical records to place biopsy results.
- Provides guidance to patients about clinic services when required.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing Science from an accredited institution with 1 to 3 years of experience in the clinical area, preferably in an acute hospital setting or hospital industry.
- Registered Nurse with a valid and current license in Puerto Rico without restrictions.
- Member of the College of Nursing Professionals of Puerto Rico.
