JOB SUMMARY

The Underwriting Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the underwriting department within the organization. This individual is responsible for overseeing the underwriting process, managing a team of underwriters, and ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and company policies. The Underwriting Manager collaborates with various departments to assess risk, make informed decisions, and maintain profitability while providing exceptional service to clients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Evaluate and review rates for new groups and active groups. 
  • Make sound and deep analyses with recommendations, based on the guidelines established.
  • Communicate with account representatives, clinical personnel, and others to obtain information before determining rates to be quoted.
  • Determine the adequacy and appropriateness of data used in the rate determination process.   
  • Develop and implement underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines in alignment with company objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Monitor workflow and workload distribution to optimize efficiency and meet service level agreements.
  • Analyze underwriting data, market trends, and industry developments to identify opportunities and risks, informing strategic decision making
  • Engage with external partners, such as brokers, agents, and clients, to understand their needs, address inquiries, and build rapport.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement training programs to enhance underwriting skills and knowledge

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Mathematics

EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or other quantitative field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years in insurance underwriting roles with increasing scope and responsibilities.
