JOB SUMMARY

Provides strategic leadership to the Underwriting department, establishing objectives aligned with enterprise goals. Drives staff development and process efficiency initiatives while ensuring meticulous analysis of rating actions across the Commercial group portfolio. Implements best practices to navigate complex situations, establish preventive measures, and uphold the company's financial health and operational integrity through proactive risk management

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide commercial market leadership team with relevant analysis and information in support of operational, financial, and strategic decisions.
  • Plan, organize, and control commercial group underwriting processes, ensuring adherence to sound underwriting principles and business judgment.
  • Ensure corporate financial and sales goals are met through sound underwriting of commercial group business and provide consultative support to sales representatives, brokers, and clients.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and monitor underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures to standardize department operations and drive improvements in efficiency and productivity.
  • Stay updated on product changes, system changes, market insights, and legislative changes impacting the Commercial portfolio.
  • Build and maintain underwriting dashboards and forecasts to support pricing decisions, financial budgets/forecasts, and strategic plans.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis, summarize findings, and submit recommendations requiring senior leadership approval. Prepare presentations and lead pricing discussions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and local legal/regulatory requirements, enforce adherence to requirements, and advise on necessary actions.
  • Manage, lead, coach, and develop the underwriting team. Monitor and evaluate staff performance and recommend personnel actions.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls related to underwriting, promptly resolving compliance and audit findings.

EDUCATION

  • Master's Degree in Statistics or Mathematics

EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Risk Management, or related field, with at least five (5) years of related experience. Or bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Risk Management, or related field, with at least ten (10) years of related experience. At least five (5) years must be dedicated to the management of related functions in positions of increasing responsibilities is desirable.
